Micah Taylor: “I’ve always been a Han Solo guy”

Micah Taylor is a writer and director who approaches filmmaking with a childlike wonder. One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies with him. He laughs, he cries, he ugly cries, he doesn’t care. In the best possible way, it’s like going to the movies with someone who has never been.

But he’s not just a consumer of films, he also makes them.

He created his first short film, How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse, in 2010 and has since gone on to create multiple award-winning short films including Shelter County and House Lights.

He also has a web series on Amazon called, UnSuper.

In this episode, we learn how he creates indie short films. His methods for writing. How he grows from filmmaking. And his undying love for Ryan Gosling.

We also discuss his latest short, “House Lights”. It’s a story about a young Director and Playwright who juggles her cast and critics as she attempts to put on her very first show.

Nearly 30 minutes have been edited from this interview but you can listen to the raw audio here.
